James Gunn Recruits Horror Directors for Short Films on Xbox Live

Looks like Microsoft is trying to increase their original video content on Xbox Live, and they’ve recruited none other than James Gunn, writer/director of Slither, to help them do it. Just announced at Comic-Con this week is the “Horror Meets Comedy Xbox Original Short Film Pilots” project, which will see a bunch of big name directors helming short horror films with a comedic twist. Gunn will be producing along with Peter Safran (Scary Movie). Here’s a list of the directors involved and their shorts:

  • Doggie Heaven (Woof!) — James Wan (Saw, Death Sentence) and Leigh Whannell
  • Humanzee! — James Gunn (Slither, Dawn of the Dead)
  • MEATDOG: What’s Fer’ Dinner — David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy)
  • Blue Like You — Lucky McKee (May, The Woods)
  • The Miracle of Phil — Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror)
  • Adrenaline Slam — Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th)
  • Assorted Nightmares: The Janitor — John Clisham

The films will be available starting this fall and will be free to download or stream only on Xbox Live. Very cool… they just might turn this into a viable distribution medium for independent movies after all.

  • Free is absolutely the right price. I’ll definitely check these out. Any word on ratings? WIll they be rather tame, like “Fear itself?”

  • Cheers for the great info m8
