Let me start by saying that I’m a big Quentin Tarantino fan (heck, I still count Pulp Fiction as my favourite film of all-time, obvious though it may be), but there’s little doubt in my mind that in recent years the man has been given so much free reign that his movies have become somewhat self-indulgent. Don’t get me wrong, self-indulgence can be a great thing when it comes to art, and he has certainly earned it… but sometimes I think that if there was someone forcing him to edit his films just a little more tightly, they would come out much better in the end.

So now Ain’t It Cool News has the latest scoop on his upcoming WWII drama, Inglorious Bastards. He’s been talking about it for years, but now it looks like this really is going to become his next project. With over 6 years spent writing it, you can imagine it must be a pretty epic flick. Well, apparently Tarantino was interviewing director Enzo Castellari for a new DVD release of his own 70’s exploitation film Inglorious Bastards (Tarantino’s version is not a remake, it just borrows the title), and during the interview he reveals that his Inglorious Bastards is actually going to be divided into two parts. Surprise, surprise… apparently it is too big for just one movie. Hey, I liked both Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 and Grindhouse, but don’t you think this whole double bill thing is just getting a little bit silly? (Then again, maybe Tarantino’s starting a trend, what with Soderbergh’s Che Guevara biopic looking to go the same route.)

In other Tarantino news, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 are coming to Blu-ray on September 9th. You’d think this would be the ideal time to release the combined, extended version of the two films, but there has been no confirmation of that so far.
