Last year we heard talk of a direct-to-video Get Smart spin-off that would be released on DVD shortly after Get Smart hit theatres. The movie, entitled Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control, would follow CONTROL’s two goofy gadget engineers, played by Masi Oka (Heroes) and Nate Torrence (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), on a madcap adventure of their own (minus appearances from any of the film’s major stars like Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway or The Rock). You may be wondering why you haven’t heard anything about this spin-off movie so far, but the reason seems to be because they don’t want to confuse moviegoers by advertising two Get Smart movies at once. Probably a wise move.

Collider did manage to get their hands on a trailer for the DTV flick, however, and surprisingly, it actually looks somewhat decent. The effects are impressive, and there seems to be a good chemistry between Oka and Torrence that could actually carry a film. The trailer implies that Patrick Warburton will also make an appearance in the movie as the robot Hymie, however IMDB seems to indicate that it’s actually a lookalike filling in for him. Either way, assuming I enjoy the Get Smart movie, I might actually give this a chance. Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 1st.
