Babylon A.D. Trailer Starring Vin Diesel

I’ve been pretty confused about Mathieu Kassovitz’s upcoming movie Babylon A.D. since I first heard about it. For the longest time I thought this movie was somehow related to the TV series Babylon 5 (don’t know how I got that impression) but apparently it is based on a novel by French sci-fi author Maurice G. Dantec. I had recently heard that there were problems in post-production getting the movie down to a reasonable length, but other than that I didn’t know much aside from the fact that it starred Vin Diesel.

IGN released the first domestic trailer for the movie this week, and after watching it, I have come to a few conclusions. First of all, this is totally the kind of movie I would expect Vin Diesel to star in. If I didn’t know any better, I might think it was another Riddick sequel. Second of all, it reminded me a bit of Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element… maybe it’s just the French sci-fi thing. Lastly, I feel the same way about this movie as I do about Timur Bekmambetov’s upcoming action flick Wanted. I know it will be completely over the top and the plot will likely be incoherent, and yet it will be so jam packed with eye candy that I don’t want to miss it. Check out the trailer below and see if you dig it. Babylon A.D. hits theatres on August 29th.

  • Even as I type this I cannot believe that I’m interested in this film. Action movies come and go, but when there’s this much kooky sci-fi stuff going on in a film I can’t help but be interested. I did see Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux, after all.

Pros – Sci-fi elements, stylized vision, resemblance to Children of Men, interesting action

Cons – mindless violence, incomprehensible story elements, Vin Diesel’s voice, Vin Diesel’s acting, Vin Diesel
