Weird Web Wednesdays: Office Freakout is a Viral Ad for Angelina Jolie?

weirdwebofficefreakout.jpg

By far the most talked about video on the internet this past week has been the office freakout that shows a man throwing monitors, turning over desks and just generally trashing a busy office. Of course, it’s not that surprising to learn that the video was actually fake, but the strange thing is that the man who is claiming responsibility is none other than Russian director Timur Bekmambetov. He says that the video is a viral ad for his upcoming movie Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie, although I fail to see what the connection is. Also this week on Weird Web Wednesday, check out a pretty killer Star Trek rap, a mean-spirited prank played by a father on his son, and a reporter who has an unfortunate encounter with a bug. The moral of the story is… don’t walk with your mouth open.

I’m guessing that the connection is that the main character works in this type of environment and is on the verge of snapping like that.

  • Ryan

In the comic book Wesley Gibson trashes his workplace. And in the russian redband trailer (way better than the American redband) it shows Wesley smacking a dude with a keyboard.

I just don’t see how this is a successful viral ad. Half the interweb thinks this is real. They should have put the titles and release date at the end.

JT was not an ass. that interviewer was being a dork and introduced everything on an unfunny confrontational level.

How is that a “viral ad” if it has absolutely no tie in to the movie? Oh marketing, and your useless hard-on for the word “viral”.

  • THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY NIGHT! For nerds like me that TNG rap was out of this fucking world. BRILLIANT! Love the shots from the episode “The Game” in the background. The lyrics are kick ass as hell.

Going to watch it again. Right now.

  • The ultra slowed down version of the soup can to the nuts is pretty funny. Word to anyone out there. You do this to me, you better run goddammit. You’ll have about 3 minutes until your life is over.

  • Don’t even need to watch this one. The title is funny enough:

Nope, no, all wrong. The office freakout clip is a viral ad for me and my new company which I started last week. We sell hammocks, car batteries, Colombian rum. Don’t you people gat it? Jolie’s always trying to steal my thunder. Why can’t everybody see that?

Soup can to the nuts is pretty good. Any shot to someone’s else’s nuts is pretty good, actually.

Don’t know what it is, but I love watching people get hurt. Last week…that lady tumbling out of her cubicle made me laugh so hard I had tears.

  • That leg crushing thing is a whole lot of not cool. People getting mildly hurt is pretty funny (particularly in slow motion); but amputation or someone getting really fucked up or even death isn’t very funny.

  • You forget that a big part of and influence on this website is Jay Cheel, and I’m pretty sure he’d disagree with you.

I simply skip over the most grueling of the videos. I’m still completely freaked out over the treeman video from months and months ago. I definitely wish I had never watched that.

The funniest part of the hit and run video was the Honda Element ad that popped up the first time I watched it.

  • Sean, you’ve inspired me to start a similar feature over on my personal blog:

Frakked-up Fridays (I wanted to call it fucked up Fridays, but my mom reads the blog occassionally; so you know…)
