The Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading Trailer Starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt

Here’s a pleasant little surprise for you. Fresh off their Oscar win for No Country for Old Men, The Coen Brothers are already back at it again with a trailer for their latest film Burn After Reading. This looks like another wacky and hilarious Coen Brothers dramedy with an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and J.K. Simmons.

Pitt and McDormand play two gym employees who stumble onto a CD containing secret documents belonging to a C.I.A. agent (Malkovich). They decide to try and blackmail him, which only leads to further trouble. There’s not much to say except that this looks like the Coens at the top of their game once again. They’ve switched gears and taken things in a totally different direction from No Country for Old Men (which they tend to do, from movie to movie). Brad Pitt’s character seems like he could be a little too goofy, but I think both he and Clooney have a real knack for comedy even though they aren’t often praised for it.

You can check out the trailer right now over at Apple, although apparently it is a “red band” trailer because there are a couple of cuss words in it, so they try to get you to watch it through iTunes to verify your age. I’ve included a direct link to the high res version below. Burn After Reading hits theatres on September 12th… mark it on your calendars kiddies!

  • John Malkovich is killer in this, but both George Clooney and Brad Pitt annoy me. Isn’t Brad Pitt alittle too old for this part? And George Clooneys little joke reminded me of Mallrats with everybody going “IN THE BACK OF A VOLKSWAGEN?” This is supposed to be genius writing? Come on…

  • I have never liked George Clooney and generally feel that he ruins any Coen Brothers movie he’s in, but this looks damn good. I can’t wait.

This looks very very good. Did anyone else think that Pitt’s hair looks like the toned down version of the one he had in Johnny Suede?

  • Dennis

I’m so glad to see Pitt finally doing something other than brooding serious characters. Almost reminds me a bit of Tyler Durden.

  • I think brad pitt looks really funny, “i thought you might be eorried about the security of your shit”.

  • I don’t like Clooney in comedy. I Don’t like Pitt in comedy. And generally, I don’t like the two of them together. (read: The ocean’s films)

Having said that, the story of this one sounds pretty damn good.

Let’s just hope this isn’t another “Intolerable Cruelty” or “The Ladykillers.”

Looks good, although I didn’t really care for “The Ladykillers” and had no interest in “Intolerable Cruelty”.

Btw, why link us to the streaming trailer when the HD trailers were available? They really don’t take long to download. I like to watch the HD trailers whenever possible.

This movie looks fantastic. I’m very excited. I gotta say I was disappointed by No Country for Old Men. Maybe because I had too high expectations for it. Iexpected it to be a lot more like Fargo. But it turned out to be a lot less humerous and a lot more brutal. Anyway, maybe I should lower my expectations for Burn after reading, because this movie lood damn good.
