Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to Play Comic Book Geeks in Paul

From Cannes this week comes news on yet another upcoming project for Simon Pegg and his buddy Nick Frost. Previously we had heard some sketchy rumours about Edgar Wright’s next flick (tentatively titled World’s End) which would complete the trilogy they started with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. However, there is also another movie that Pegg has apparently finished writing with Nick Frost, that they are hoping to shoot within the next year or so (without Wright, I’m assuming).
The movie is called Paul, and Pegg describes it as “a road movie set in America about two British comic book geeks that get into an adventure across America”. Comic book geeks? Wait… isn’t this just basically Spaced: The Movie? Okay, so Nick Frost’s character wasn’t a comic book geek in Spaced, but still, it’s hard not to see a resemblance. Pegg addresses the feeling of deja vu by reciting that age old adage, “write what you know”, and yet, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed to see them return to this material. I don’t know, maybe I’m just being a bump on a log… Kevin Smith has written the same movie like 6 or 7 times now, right? What do you think, does this announcement excite you?
On a related note, there’s an interesting article in The Guardian written by Toby Young (author of How To Lose Friends and Alienate People) about his experiences hanging out with Simon Pegg while promoting their movie at Cannes. He certainly sounds like a super nice guy.
