CONTEST: Win Night of the Living Dead 40th Anniversary Edition on DVD!

George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead is one of those movies that has been released on DVD way too many times to count, but if you still don’t have it in your collection yet, here’s your chance to get the shiny new 40th Anniversary Edition for free! I’m not sure how it measures up to the Millennium Edition that was released a couple of years back, but it certainly comes loaded with plenty of extras.

To enter the contest, all you have to do is tell us what your favourite George A. Romero movie is! E-mail that along with your mailing address to filmjunk@gmail.com with “Night of the Living Dead Contest” in the subject line. We’ll randomly pick a winner from all the entries we receive and announce the winner by Friday, May 23rd (no, we do not use your personal information to spam you).

Here’s the full list of extras from the back of the DVD:

  • 2 Feature Audio Commentaries with George A. Romero and Cast and Crew
  • Feature Length Documentary: “One For The Fire”
  • Q&A with Romero: “Speak To The Dead”
  • Ben Speaks: The Last Interview with Actor Duane Jones
  • Original Script
  • Trailer and Still Gallery

Good luck!

I’m interested in this DVD for the commentary alone. However, on the Dawn of the Dead commentary Romero spent half the time saying he didn’t remember stuff.

  • Reed Farrington

I think Jay and I should do a FilmJunk parody of the Dawn of the Dead commentary.

  • I really can’t fathom why I don’t own this movie yet…

Romero always says stuff like “if anyone is listening to this” on his commentaries. It’s like he can’t believe that anyone would be interested in what he has to say about his movies. Plus, he’s not very dynamic in his commentaries. If Savini is doing the commentary with him, he tends to take over, or ask George questions.
I do have the Millennium Edition, but I’d still love to own this.

Reed, you and Jay should do a real commentary for “Dawn of the Dead”. I’d love to hear you relate what you see to the Star Trek Movies/Series. Like how when Peter contemplates suicide near the end of DOTD, it reminds you of a similar situation John Luc Picard faced when he was assimilated by the Borg, or something…

  • *Jean-Luc Picard.

Neither Jay nor Reed F. likes him.

  • Looking for a quick Night of the Living Dead fix? There is always the Internet Public Archive. The movie has been in the public domain for years and a full 2-4 GB download is only a couple clicks away.

I think I have three versions of NOTLD, including the 30th Anniversary version with the bad new scences and music. I still want more though.

Sorry about the John/Jean thing, maybe Reed could instead compare Tom Savini’s machete to the face of the zombie to the way Captain Kirk would karate chop his opponent into unconsciousness, or something…

  • i’m in

I’m curious to see if this has the same exact DVD features that the millennium edition has. Otherwise, I see no reason to purchase this 40th Anniversary Edition.

P.S. If I play my cards right, I’m gonna meet George A. Romero next month ^_^

I think I read that it will come out on Blu Ray later this year.

  • I have this on an abysmal, 2 dollar DVD. I would like to have this uber-deluxe edition. Count me in.

  • Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that if i do not win i will blow the film junk headquarters up.
