Baz Luhrmann’s Australia Trailer Starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman

Australia is the latest epic from acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet), starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Hmm… Luhrmann, Kidman and Jackman? They obviously planned that. Anyway, as far as I know this movie is not a musical, but rather a period piece set prior to World War II, with a pair of cattle ranchers driving their herd across Northern Australia when they are caught in the Japanese bombing of Darwin.

Luhrmann himself is Australian, and seems eager to tell the story of an event that has been called the “Pearl Harbor of Australia”. I suspect this will be better than Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor, although it seems to have a central love story as well. At any rate, the teaser trailer looks promising, and a bit more restrained than Luhrmann’s usual fare. Australia hits theatres on November 14th; check out the trailer below.

This movie looks amazing. I just heard about a contest on hautelook.com where people can enter to win their own private screening for it in any city in America. Fox will rent out a theater and host a private screening for the winner and 50 of their closest friends. I just joined the site to enter the contest!
