Orlando Bloom Lands Lead Role in Prince of Persia Movie?

Big surprise… Orlando Bloom may have just scored the lead role in yet another major action/adventure franchise. Can you say typecasting?? Even early on in development, we had heard that Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to turn the Prince of Persia video game series into a blockbuster movie franchise in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean. If this rumour is, in fact, true, then their intentions could not be more clear.

According to 13WHAM and Hollywood.com, Bloom has signed on to star as Prince Dastan in the trilogy for a reported $40 million. Is he really worth that kind of money? Well I suppose he has proven to be a major draw in a lot of similar films, but he also didn’t have top billing in any of them. It’s interesting to note that a casting survey conducted a while back found that people actually preferred David Zandi for the role (in part because of the fact that he is an actual member of the Persian royal family). It seems that Cilian Murphy and Zac Efron may have also been in the running for the role. What do you think, did they make the right choice?



  • Orlando Bloom is shit. Pirates 2 and 3 blew, He was the weakest part of “Troy” and don’t get me started on “Kingdom of Heaven.” He isn’t worth 40 million, and beyond that, I don’t think prince of persia warrants more than one film.

    Why the hell are they usin a white dude to play the role? Shouldn’t they find someone who is actually persian, or at least has tan skin. I mean I know Tom Cruise was the last Samuri, but his character was a white guy anyway. I must be a white mans world, alright.

    Bloom is doing well for himself considering he absolutely cannot act. The only reason he doesn’t catch as much flack as Hayden Christensen is because he didn’t “rape” anyone’s childhood by playing Darth Vader.

  • Orlando Bloom is alright in Troy and Kingdom of Heaven. The only problem is that he is so popular with women, no man can possibly think positive thoughts about him. Unless he grows a nice little ‘stache and does some films with a manly director, he will never become popular on the internet.

    They have to use a white guy to portray someone famous. Otherwise nobody will buy it. Americans believe that anybody famous must be white.

    Im actually looking forward to this. I think it could be a fun summer blockbuster and making it along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean is probably for the best. As far as Bloom as the Prince, I dont really mind. Its not like the Prince is a character that pops out off the screen at you. He is an alright character but hardly a complete badass. I am sure any under performance that Bloom brings to the role would actually fit it perfectly. This could be a very fun movie. And maybe the film to end the bad video game movie trend. I am interested.

  • I find that hard to believe, since alot of bad actors who make bad films are far less hated.

  • i agree partly with henrik and mike simultaneously. I really think he is useless as an actor (or unproven still), and women get so wet over him doing anything its hard for a heterosexual male to enjoy or even tolerate him talking for anything over a minute.

  • P.S. really Orlando is the definition of BLAND. And not to be sexist, but he is proof that women, by a slightly higher margin then men, will completely sell out as fans for a “hottie”…regardless of talent.

    Oh please! For every bland, talentless male actor in Hollywood, there have got to be at least three bland, talentless female actors out there whose careers exist only because men, too, are completely willing to sell out as fans for a “hottie”.

    And Bob, usually when people say “not to be sexist, but…” they’re being exactly that. Saying “not to be sexist” beforehand does not excuse it.

    These are all older guys though. In your defense, I can’t really think of a brilliant comparison. What other struggling hearththrobs are there out there?

    Bruce Campbell is one of the most beloved actors but is terrible at it and has only been in terrible movies, not counting his cameos of course.

  • Bruce Campbell, Steve Carrell, Christian Bale, Robert De Niro…none of these people can be called terrible actors and every single one of them has been in a good film, where as Orlando Bloom has not.

    Even a bad actor like Keanu Reeves has the Matrix.

  • If you can call Orlando Bloom terrible, then I can call any of those actors terrible. I thought that’s how opinion worked? I also happen to like Kingdom of Heaven, which would have been amazing if they got rid of the ridiculous romance. Also check him out in Extras where he was amazing, but I guess De Niro also has an Extras episode.

  • I think there is an interesting point to be made here though, about actor that girls love starring in a video game movie (ie. a movie aimed at guys). Either it’s a brilliant move, or it’s the stupidest thing they could have done.

    For what it’s worth, his voice does resemble the guy who did the Prince’s voice in the Sands of Time game!

    Bubba Ho-tep was a horribly boring pile of shit.

    The movie dragged along pointless as if it was trying to convince us that it wasnt a b-movie DTV title staring Bruce Campbell. The only thing it had going for it was Bruce Campbell, but once you realize he cant actually act outside of Ash (and even that is quite debatable), the charm is gone.

    If you thought Bubba Ho-Tep was amazing, then a shadow puppet show would entertain you.

    Orlando Bloom is one of the most terrible actors ive ever seen he only gets attention because he is a pin up personally he makes me puke give me Eric Bana anyday a far superior actor and also the looks now he is a man not a pimply youth like OrBLANDo Bloom.

    Let’s end this discussion by saying I’m glad they cast Jake Gyllenhaal for the role. I saw the pictures of him on set. It’ll be great.

    Oh and honestly… Tom Cruise??!! That would really ruin the movie. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great actor and has starred in many main movies, but as a person… He’s a little weird.

    Orlando Bloom… People (read: fourteen-year old girls) want to watch him. So he’ll get the part anyday. It’s the way Hollywood works. If you don’t like, don’t watch! (That’s what I usually do. Really works for me.)

    I’ve enjoyed playing the games. Can’t wait to see the movie. Curse the idiots who pushed the date to 2010!

    All u men are really stupid. U guys are hating on Orlando because u are jealous that he’s popular with the ladies. U guys are saying that “us women” like an actor for looks and not talent… well what about u men liking female actresses because they are hot??? U know u guys do it too so give me a break! I will give 3 examples: Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, Eva Mendes… All of these tramps cannot act, but u guys like watching their movies because u think they are hot, so stop talking crap when women do it with male actors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Orlando Bloom is a bland, untalented actor. 14 years old teen-girls adore him. It’s his feminine look they love, they don’t take notice of his acting skills. And his acting is horrible! Besides the bad acting he isn’t my type…feminine looking, ugly lips, average eyes I find nothing special when he starts talking.

    By the way, Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Eva Mendes are bland, untalented actresses as well!!! But they are very pretty women!!!
