When Marvel first announced that they were doing a series of direct to DVD animated feature films, I was pretty enthusiastic about the possibilities. Then I saw Ultimate Avengers, and I was kind of let down. Ever since then I haven’t really been able to get excited about any of their new animated projects, and now the trailer for their latest movie has me convinced they’re going in completely the wrong direction.

Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow is a story not about the Avengers, but rather, their teenage children if you can believe it. The idea is that Ultron has killed their parents and now the kids of Black Widow, Captain America, Wasp, Giant-Man, Thor, Storm and Black Panther must team up to “avenge” them. It just seems like a typical idea for a Saturday morning cartoon you’d see nowadays (Teen Titans anyone?), and while I’m sure it’s fine for a younger audience and all, I don’t see why they can’t do something a little bit deeper and more “grown up” with these animated films. Anyway, check out the teaser trailer below and see what you think. Next Avengers is scheduled to be released on DVD on August 26th.
