Neil Patrick Harris to Get His Own Harold and Kumar Spin-Off?

I have yet to see the first Harold and Kumar film in its entirety, so I have to admit, I’m still sort of in the dark when it comes to Neil Patrick Harris and his involvement in the comedy series. I know that he supposedly plays a bad ass version of himself, and from what I hear, his scenes in the sequel are supposedly the funniest bits. All I know is that the NPH unicorn poster is a masterpiece of movie marketing. Still, sometimes these ironic self-deprecating cameos lose steam after a while, and are best left as one-off appearances. Which is why I’m a little apprehensive to hear that writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are considering a Neil Patrick Harris spin-off movie. Could that actually work?
Again, I haven’t seen the movies, so I suppose I am not the best judge of this. I just have a feeling that it would probably kill the joke dead. Don’t get me wrong, I think Neil Patrick Harris is the man and I’d love to see him star in his own comedy. I’m just not sure that this is the best way to do it. In a recent interview with Ain’t It Cool News, NPH had this to say about it:
“Part of me thinks that would be really hilarious just to make up this fictitious back story of my family and that makes me think of Steve Martin in The Jerk, just going really outlandish and then part of me thinks that is just truly jumping the shark, so I don’t know. it might be too much, but if anyone can write it… they can, so who knows? I think that would honestly entirely depend upon the success of the next couple of months.”
Is this something you’d like to see?
