Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder Trailer

Well here it is, the full trailer for Ben Stiller’s upcoming Vietnam war comedy Tropic Thunder. I like Ben Stiller a lot, despite the fact that I don’t think he has done anything all that great in the past few years (Night at the Museum was the highest grossing movie of his career, however). That said, something about a ‘nam spoof just seems a little stale and dated if you ask me.

I guess Tropic Thunder might be a bit different because it’s actually a parody of the making of a war movie, not just a straight up parody of a war movie. I will say that the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as an actor in blackface is genius. Other than that, I’m adopting a “wait and see” approach on this one. At the very least there’s a great cast that also includes Jack Black, Jay Baruchel, Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Steve Coogan, among others. Tropic Thunder hits theatres on August 15th; check out the trailer below.

  • Wa a minute..!! Steve Coogan is in this? R Downey Jr.? Nice.

  • Yeah, I think this could be bordering on brilliant. The fact that it’s a movie about a movie being made and not a straight up parody help a lot. Hopefully they won’t milk the whole plot about them not knowing that it’s real.

Downey Jr – brilliant as always. And as Kurt mentioned, I had no idea Coogan was in this. I’m sold.

“Look at my teeth. That’s called ‘not white’.”

  • this looks amazing. I’m in. you could even call me excited.

  • There’s still a lot of talent in there to keep me interested, but this trailer honestly didn’t do much for me. I thought the teaser was much more effective.

  • It seems to be written by ethan coen

  • I thought that too but it’s not… his name is Etan Cohen and apparently he’s a buddy of Mike Judge’s.

This was filmed where I live, on Kauai. It will be quite interesting seeing all the familiar landmarks when it comes out. I remember seeing all the stuff set up in that one scene with all the movie equipment, having no idea that was indeed an actual scene for the movie. (double-duty, I suppose)
