You may know Danny McBride for his roles in Hot Rod, or David Gordon Green’s All The Real Girls (he also had a small part in The Heartbreak Kid), but a couple of years ago he headlined a small indie comedy called The Foot Fist Way. Not many people have seen it up until now, but it looks like that’s about to change after the movie fell into the hands of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Now they’re ponying up some cash to release this bad boy, and a trailer for the flick has just hit the web.
McBride stars as Fred Simmons, a delusional tae kwon do instructor who goes off the deep end when he finds out that his wife cheated on him. There’s definitely a bit of a Napoleon Dynamite vibe here (mostly because of Kip’s Rexkwondo training) but I don’t see that as a bad thing. Either way it looks pretty damn funny. The movie was written and directed by Jody Hill and co-written by Ben Best, who have also teamed up with McBride for an HBO pilot called East Bound and Down (exec produced by Ferrell and McKay). No word on the status of that, but McBride appears next in Drillbit Taylor and Pineapple Express. The release date for The Foot Fist Way is still TBA.
