Monday Morning Box Office Report – March 3, 2008

Well it certainly wasn’t a great weekend for Will Ferrell at the box office, but his new movie Semi-Pro did in fact come out on top with just over $15 million. This puts it below expectations, and although it wasn’t a total bomb, it does seem like people may have caught on to some of the negative reviews in time to avoid it. Still, the marketing campaign and Will Ferrell’s name were no match for any of the other new releases this weekend. The Other Boleyn Girl was #4 with $8.75 mil, while Penelope was #8 with just $4 mil. Vantage Point had a surprisingly strong second weekend, coming in at #2, meanwhile No Country for Old Men and Juno are still continuing to make money! I guess sometimes people really do pay attention to the Oscars.

1. Semi-Pro — $15.3M
2. Vantage Point — $13M
3. The Spiderwick Chronicles — $8.75M
4. The Other Boleyn Girl — $8.3M
5. Jumper — $7.6M
6. Step Up 2 the Streets — $5.71M
7. Fool’s Gold — $4.69M
8. Penelope — $4.01M
9. No Country for Old Men — $4M
10. Juno — $3.35M

  • is the new funny games coming to ST. Cathrines next week? If so you guys should review it.

  • Hey Drew, there’s no way this will come to St. Catharines, but if it’s within driving distance I’d like to see it. I think it actually comes out on the 14th though.

I’d bet a lot of people go to see No Country a second time even.

  • I was hard pressed to find a theater around here that was showing No Country up until the Oscars. It certainly seems to have been given a second wind, because now it’s showing everywhere I go. It looks like Juno may finally be on the way out now, though. If I’m not mistaken, it’s in the lowest slot on the Top 10 that it’s been at since it’s release. I still can’t believe how well it’s done.
