Galactus Will Appear in the Silver Surfer Movie

If you were one of the many people who hated the fact that Galactus was portrayed as a formless storm cloud in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, you’ll be happy to hear that the big guy will supposedly get his due in the upcoming Silver Surfer spin-off movie. During a recent panel at Wondercon, writer J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, The Real GhostBusters) explained that the movie would be an origin story, and did his best to appease angry fanboys by explaining that the reason Galactus was not shown in Fantastic Four 2 was because they were saving the reveal for this movie instead.

Although it may seem like a convenient excuse for the whole storm cloud fiasco, as long as Galactus does indeed show up in full armor and helmet in this movie, I’m assuming people will be happy (unless he looks goofy, which he probably will). Does this news make you more excited for the Silver Surfer standalone film? Hey, I’m just interested because of the fact that Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) is still believed to be directing it, but I do think that a Silver Surfer movie probably wouldn’t be complete without Galactus playing a major role.



  • I have to say the news that Galactus will appear doesn’t make me in the least bit excited about the movie. Although the news that Alex Proyas is to direct is very good indeed. He just doesn’t do enough movies. Plus I hope they keep Laurence Fishburne as the voice.

  • As far as I’m concerned, Marvel missed their chance to put both Silver Surfer and Galactus in a film. FF2 was shit, Galactus was shit, and Silver Surfer was as close to shit as you can get without quite being shit. I have the uncontrollable feeling that a Silver Surfer solo film will end up being to Fantastic Four what Elektra was to Daredevil: a spin-off from a piece of crap that is somehow even more crappy than the movie it’s being spun off from. Blah.

    I’ve been waiting FOREVER for someone to make a decent Silver Surfer movie, and after seeing him in the FF4 movie, I’m convinced that as far as the overall look of the Silver Surfer, they can pull it off. As for Galactus, he’s supposed to be so big that he can swallow a plant whole. How are they gonna pull THAT off without it looking goofy as hell? I remember seeing Galactus in old Silver Surfer comic books I used to have, and how HUGE he was.

    And how exactly are they going to explain away a few points from F4:2 if they did indeed “know” about a surfer film being made in the future:

    1) Galactus having a huge cloud around him, and no ship inside with him sat on a seat when the Surfer entered?
    2) The Surfer being able to destroy him by just blowing himself up?
    3) The Surfer’s powers being from his board and not the power cosmic?

    The biggestt issue being that the Surfer apparently had the power to destroy Galactus by just blowing himself up from the start? Why would Galactus give him that much power? He didnt!

    I hope they treat this SS film like a complete reboot and ignore the existance of F4:2, because there are too many continuity issues to explain away at the end of that film.
