New To Theatres This Weekend – Feb. 22, 2008

There’s a decent assortment of new movies out this weekend, a few of which could very well take viewers away from the Oscars on Sunday. Vantage Point is by far the biggest release, a thriller that shows an assassination attempt from a number of different perspectives. Also in fairly wide release is Charlie Barlett, starring Anton Yelchin as a kid who becomes the school psychiatrist (I really liked him in Huff), and (ugh) the latest Larry The Cable Guy movie, Witless Protection. A lot of people (myself included) are really looking forward to Michel Gondry’s Be Kind Rewind, and if it were playing in more theatres, I’d love to catch the three-director horror flick The Signal. What will you be checking out?

Be Kind Rewind (semi-wide)
The Counterfeiters (limited)
Charlie Bartlett
The Signal (limited)
U2 3D (semi-wide)
Vantage Point
Witless Protection

I usually don’t see Comedies in the theater (I’d rather see an action, horror, indie, classic, etc), so I’ll wait for DVD on Be Kind, Rewind. The Signal looks alright, but it’ll probably be another bluray/DVD weekend for me.

  • seems like Be Kind, Rewind will take on my sunday evening
Sorry guys! I’m soooo excited to catch that movie! Which kind of makes me anxious since I have somewhat of high expectations…anyhow, good weekend Film Junkies!

  • I’ll be watching the Oscars during my usual timeslot of catching a new release. I’m still going to attempt to see Be Kind Rewind. The signal rocks, if it is nearby, it is worth a theatrical visit despite the somewhat crumby ending of the flick.

A theater in Fullerton, Ca, about 35min. away from my house, had an incident of a person on shrooms started stabbing people during a screening of The Signal. Crazy stuff.

  • Whoa… that’s even better than the guy who brought snakes to a Snakes on a Plane screening.
