I don't see how you can put yourself on such a pediestal so as to speak about the intelligence of the filmgoing audience, when you're on the record saying that Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo is your favourite comedy ever. I am a big fan of yours, but your taste in films is pretty ridiculous. From what I can gather it's braindead comedies mixed with any genre-film that has asians speaking an asian language.

Cain, I'm wondering if you like Star Trek. In any case, I'm glad you find Treknobabble entertaining.

I wanted to write about stuff that would interest long-time fans as well as pique the interest of anyone getting into Star Trek because of J.J. Abrams' involvement. I'm not sure if a balance can be made to entertain both audiences.

As for Cantankerous, I'm headed into Jay's studio sometime this weekend hopefully. I think I want to discuss the intelligence of filmgoing audiences. Jay and I have differing opinions on this. Jay hates pretentiousness and I guess there's a fine line that all artists walk regarding this. I'll be bringing up Steven Johnson's book, "Everything Bad is Good for You," in which Johnson argues that today's entertainment is making us "smarter."

Taking Jays advice will be the downfall of mankind. He may be convinced that one column a week is enough, but he was also convinced that he had cancer because of an upset stomach! I still think that once a day is appropriate.

Thx, Emperor Fabulous. It's always nice to see a new commenter name on a post of mine. And thx to Henrik for his continuing support. (I just realized there's a spoiler in my last paragraph of the column. Oops! Sorry, Henrik.)

I must admit that I'm not the type of writer who can effortlessly write by streaming his thoughts down on paper. (I was reading that Rod Serling could dictate scripts right into a voice recorder, and then have a secretary type up a script; I would expect some rewriting afterwards, though.) I would expect a blog writer to be able to whip up a few paragraphs in 15 minutes or so.

Believe it or not, currently it takes me about 3 hours to write a Technobabble column. I admit that I like to play with writing style and sometimes I restructure things as I come up with relevant things to say. I also admit that my writing style is kind of dense, I think, in that sometimes it's not clear what I'm referring to, especially when I start editing out things that seem superfluous.

Anyway, Jay thinks that a Treknobabble once a week seems to be enough. I think I can keep up that pace.
