Gambit to Appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (And Other Casting News)

Big news for comic book fanboys this week regarding the upcoming Wolverine standalone film. They’ve announced a handful of new characters that will be appearing in the film, the most prominent of which is Remy LeBeau aka Gambit, who will be played by young hottie Taylor Kitsch (The Covenant, Friday Night Lights)! Also added to the roster are Deadpool (to be played by Ryan Reynolds) and John Wraith (to be played by hip hop star will.i.am).

Gambit is one of the characters that fans were constantly asking to see in an X-Men film, so this seems like an obvious ploy to generate excitement for the spin-off. It remains to be seen exactly how big his role will be. While I understand the appeal of the Ragin’ Cajun to some extent, I suspect the character will be absolutely hilarious in a live action setting. I mean, come on… the guy throws playing cards at people! The bigger question here is whether or not the addition of guest stars will overcrowd this movie. I was kind of excited that the X-Men Origins movies would be able to focus on one main character and one particular storyline, and I didn’t want to see them overtaken by cameos. What do you think?

  • Hasn’t he got the power to charge anything? If that is indeed the case, I would say they are likely to change his weapon of choice to something alittle less wacky than playing cards. Afterall, the deck of cards is probably going to be run into the ground with The Dark Knight.

I had no idea who Deadpool was, but I guess he’s a ninja? I think ninjas are cool, and there aren’t alot of them in cinema. I guess there are the Jackie Chan-esque setpiece kungfu films from asia, but hardly any of them feature ninjas dressed from top-to-toe. Remember the sequence in Blade 2 with the awful visual effects? Those ninjas swinging in the rooftops were awesome! And I have to mention as well, that TMNT was pretty kickass. Bring on the ninjas!

  • As long as the filmmakers tone down Gambit’s smarmy attitude a little bit I think he’d be a great addition to one of the X-Men films. However, after hearing about all these cameos by other mutants in the new Wolverine movie (I’ve also heard talk of The Blob), I’m a bit disappointed. I was hoping that this would be a rather straightforward telling of the Weapon X story line from the comics. I was also kind of hoping this film would be a little less about super-heroics and more about a badass guy fighting back against the people experimenting on him. Sabretooth is an obvious choice for the cast, but Gambit and The Blob? I dunno. Deadpool was in Weapon X, but his ridiculous character doesn’t seem to fit the more serious Wolverine scenario.

I want to see the cards in this movie as it was his weapon of choice. His power to charge objects means (if i may quote Gambit himself) carrying round a pack of cards is like “carrying round a pack of 52 explosives in a nice tiny package” In my oppinion he wouldnt be Gambit without the attitude and cards.

I think it is rather obvious that they would put Gambit in Wolverines story. If you ever watched the old cartoon series or read the comocs, Gambit and him had fights all the time. Marvel pits them agaisnt each other all the time. I saw the blob part and it is short and to the point. I think are try to make room for spin-offs of different x-men.
