Film Junk Weekend Wrap-Up: Feb. 17, 2008

One of the major news stories from this past week would seem to be the death of HD-DVD. With announcements of Netflix and Best Buy pledging support to Blu-ray, followed by a report at the end of the week of Wal-mart doing the same, I think it’s safe to say that there is now no hope for HD-DVD to dig itself out of this ditch. It’s game over… time to buy a Playstation 3. There were also a handful of lawsuits filed this week, with the possibility of production getting held up for both Watchmen and The Hobbit. Meanwhile, Paramount pushed J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek back to 2009, leaving the holiday season a bit empty, and George Lucas officially announced plans to bring more Star Wars to theatres in time for the summer season. Oh, and there was also that little trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie, but no one really cares about that… do they?
