Wachowski Brothers and James McTeigue Together Again for Ninja Assassin

Although the Wachowski Brothers are currenty finishing up work on Speed Racer, it looks like their next movie is already prepped and ready to start shooting in March. The catch is that their frequent proxy James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) is the man who will likely be in the director’s seat for this project. The movie is an action vehicle called Ninja Assassin, and it will star Korean pop star Rain (I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK).

There is not much else to tell at this point, but I’m sure the thought of a Wachowski Brothers ninja flick is more than enough to most people salivating. Will it be a throwback to the classic ninja movies of the 80’s? Will it be their answer to Tarantino’s Kill Bill? I thought V For Vendetta was a fantastic film, and I’m interested regardless of whether or not the Wachowskis themselves choose to direct. Who’s with me?

  • I’m finding it hard to forgive the Wachowski’s and McTeigue for their spectacular fucking up of Hershbeigel’s take on Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. Shame all around fellas. Boo.

  • Who knows who fucked what up though? Sounds like most of the problems were in the script (spores, no pod people, lame dialogue etc.)

Was V for Vendetta really a fantastic film though? It had its moments, but there was alot of boring bullshit with Natalie Portman, and the tone of the cops and the big brother government as a combined antagonist was all over the place. The action was pretty suspect as well. V’s knifefighting didn’t hold a candle to Kroenen’s knife fighting in Hellboy.

  • Agreed, The Invasion was rough. But who knows, maybe it would have been even worse without their intervention?

The Wachowskis are by no means infallible, but I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with Speed Racer. I recently rewatched V For Vendetta and I still thought it was solid.

  • I’m not bestowing sainthood on Hershbeigel or anything, I don’t know what his movie would have been, but he was going for something different, and the studio stepped in and really messed with it.

I’m sure his version even if really bad would be miles ahead of the compromised clusterfuck that was released in cinemas.

  • Vendetta was ok for many of the small touches, but it was far from a great film IMO.

  • I thought V for Vendetta was incredible. I’m very excited for the matrix meets ninja.

  • Emperor Fabulous

I agree with you Sean in regards to V for Vendetta; I think I’ll actually give that a re-watch this weekend.

I’m salivating now, a Wachowski Ninja Movie.

Let me repeat that again. A Wachowski Ninja Movie.

    Bliss.

Any early wagers on a Ninja Assassin trilogy? Could be an excuse for them to deal with the Reloaded/Revolutions haters. :)

  • I wasn’t horribly impressed with V For Vendetta. But who knows? Ninjas could make for a fun flick. I’m really going to have to see a trailer or something before I can get excited though.

  • Connor G.

I enjoyed V for Vendetta alot more than any of the matrix films, so I’m looking forward to this more than I would have been if it had been confirmed that the Wachowski brothers were directing it.

  • Brenda Holdsworth

What about the DreamScapesAxis SCI FI movie the Wachowski’s were supposedly in pre-production Hell with ? Bring that movie on. The concept sounded cool and, though similar to the Matrix, it is different enough that it sounds like another BlockBuster Franchise original.

We’re tired of these anime & Comic book adaptations,.. do something original please.
