Rob Zombie Under Consideration to Direct New Conan Movie?

There’s a pretty juicy rumour making the rounds this morning that’s got a lot of people talking. Here’s the thing to keep in mind though: it’s still far from a done deal. Bloody Disgusting reports that Rob Zombie has been in meetings with Lionsgate and Nu Image about directing their next installment in the Conan franchise. He’s one of a handful of directors that they are currently talking to.

My first reaction is, why Zombie? It doesn’t seem like something he really has the skill to pull off, and I can only see it ending up like Marcus Nispel’s Pathfinder (which I still haven’t seen because of the terrible reviews). That said, at least you know he would be amping up the violence and the gore, and in some sense, that’s what a barbarian movie should be all about. I’m just don’t even know what to think about a new Conan movie without Arnold involved. The script is being written by Josh Oppenheimer (Sahara, A Sound of Thunder) and Tom Donnelly (Quicksilver, Talent for the Game) right now, but it’s unclear whether this is a sequel or a reboot.

In other Zombie news, he is reportedly working on a new original project called Rob Zombie’s Tyrannosaurus Rex. Now that sounds a little more intriguing. I wonder if it’s going to be his tribute to the Carnosaur series?



  • I’m pretty fine without Arnold in a Conan movie, because that last Conan film he was in sucked. Besides, at his age the only Conan film that would work is if they did King Conan.

  • I don’t think that Schwarzenegger is necessary for another Conan film. When I hear the name Conan I don’t think of him anyway, I think of the old Conan comics. While I am a believer that Arnold can indeed act, he certainly wasn’t at the top of his game when he made the Conan films, so who’s to say that they even need a real actor to take over the role? Just get a big guy and throw some swords and other big guys at him.

    As for Rob Zombie? I like the guy when I see him in interviews, but I’ve hated his film work thus far. I’m not excited to see him take on any worthwhile franchise that he could potentially ruin at this point.

  • At least we’ll still have the awesome film Conan the Barbarian. Arnold Schwarzenegger will forever be missed by filmfans all across the lands. He is unreplacable.

    I don´t know. For me CONAN the Barbarian is the only real barbaric movie ever. Nothing can ever even come close to this cinematic masterpiece. My god ther was not only Arnold but also the great direction by Milius, the Script by Stone and Milius and (nontheless) the production design by Ron Cobb. CONAN is one of the few movies I have to watch at least once a year to clean up my brain from all the junk I watched between.

    Just thinking about the trailer-park treatment Zombie would probably give the remake makes me shiver. This guy is just overrated. “House of 1000 Corpses” was ok but nothing special, “Devils rejects” at least entertaining but the Myers Remake was a crime wich can´t be punished enough. When will the studios see that this Zombie guy is a one trick pony and not useable for anything else but another useless TCM-ripof.

  • I’d rather see Zombie continue in the vein of horror flicks and actually try to improve his craft. After mishandling the John Carpenter classic Halloween, he should go for something more campy, like, which was rumoured on here, C.H.U.D.

    But as for the Conan movie, I can’t really say I’m a fan since I only have vague memories of the original. I know I’ve watched it but I was only a kid so it flickered my mind. But since they are shopping this script, is there any talks of casting for the role of Conan!?
    If not, who do you think would make a great Conan. I’d cast my vote with Titan of American Gladiators. You?

HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES OFF THE WALL.AND HAS GOOD VALUES LIKE SHOWING THE WORLD THAT FAMILIE STICKS TOGETHER NO MATTER WHAT.AND WHO ELSE HAS A BETTER CAST THE CHARACTER CPT SPAULDING IS BRILLIANT DEVILS REJECTS TWO THUMBS UP HALLOWEEN I HATED THE ORIGINAL UNTIL ROB RE DID IT THE WHOLE BACK STORY WAS BAD ASS IT FILLED IN A LOT OF BLANKS I NEVER GOT INTO CONAN BUT A DIRECTOR SUCH AS ROB COULD DO IT
