Spanish Bangkok Dangerous Trailer Starring Nicolas Cage

Lately we’ve been seeing a lot of Asian and European directors being given a chance to remake their movies for North American audiences. If it seems a bit redundant, that’s because it is — although in certain cases, I suppose it gives the director a chance to try some new things and maybe even improve on their original work.

The Hong Kong directorial team of Oxide and Danny Pang were not given the chance to direct the recent remake of their horror movie The Eye, however, they are now working on an English language version of their debut film Bangkok Dangerous. It is a crime thriller that revolves around a deaf-mute hitman who falls in love with a girl that works at a local pharmacy, and get this… the remake will star Nicolas Cage. Why do I suddenly have a feeling this will end up being unintentionally hilarious?

If you want an early look, there’s a trailer for the film floating around on the web right now, although it’s in Spanish. (Personally I think they should just release the movie in Spanish anyway, to add to the cultural mash-up.) Visually it looks quite nice, but I’m just happy to see Cage donning the same greasy hairstyle he had in Next. Boy I sure hope I get to see this at the drive-in this summer!
