New To Theatres This Weekend – Feb. 1, 2008

Not much in theatres this weekend to be excited about. Jessica Alba stars in the remake of The Eye, which didn’t screen for critics so I’m sure we can assume what that means. Strange Wilderness didn’t screen for critics either, and it was directed by Fred Wolf, writer of Joe Dirt, Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, and Without A Paddle… ’nuff said. Last we have the romantic comedy Over Her Dead Body, starring Eva Longoria and Paul Rudd. If you haven’t yet seen P.T. Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, this is probably the week to catch it since it has finally expanded to a wide release.

If you guys can, try to see The Orphanage. I saw it last week and it was awesome!

  • The Orphanage was fantastic.

Don’t forget about the Hannah Montana movie! Apparently this “film” will have as many viewers as the superbowl!

    Abc news
“Disney’s “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” goes out in 3-D projection in 683 domestic locations, starting Friday (February 1).”

I’m kind of interested in seeing The Eye, but not in the theater. That’s because I liked the orignal one, I liked scary movies in general, and Jessica Alba is so hot!! If for some strange reason it was a hit with critics, then maybe.. but most likely I will wait for DVD.

i’m not interested in seeing jessica alba do anything other than stop acting and take up a more natural profession like being a cashier at wal-mart. where dead and dry delivery are the norm.

  • I don’t know. The Strange Wilderness trailer was pretty funny. The writing might be bad, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Zahn and Long.

If I’m not too sick, I’ll try it on Sunday night.

  • Yeah, if I had to choose the lesser of three evils, Strange Wilderness is definitely the one I’d go with.

  • For those who haven’t seen it, There Will Be Blood all the way. Anyone in Vancouver (BC not Washington) should check out the Spark FX Film Festival running through next week – the movies this weekend include “Close Encounters”, “Tron”, “The Matrix” and “Raiders of the Lost Arc” and “Jurassic Park”.

But wide release, it’s all bout “Strange Wilderness” for me. I have a soft spot for Justin Long.

  • Time to continue catching up on titles missed in 2007. I’ll probably go out and catch Michael Clayton. Or now that There will Be Blood is in the ‘burbs here, I’ll check that out for a second time. Even Atonement.

As much as I love Zahn, I can’t bear to pass over my money to something like Stange Wilderness.

Of course, I’ve not sat down with Zodiac since the DVD came out. And then there is that Peter Watkins pseudo-doc “The Freethinker” or for that matter, I’ve not finished The Tin Drum yet either. And 1000 other DVDs.
