Stephen Norrington to Direct Clash of the Titans Remake

Well it looks like Robert Rodriguez is definitely not directing a Clash of the Titans remake after all — instead that honour will go to Stephen Norrington, the special effects wizard who previously helmed Blade and the god awful League of Extraordinary Gentlemen feature film. Hey, I like Blade just as much as the next guy, but you can’t help being a little nervous when a director is coming off a train wreck like LXG.

The original Clash of the Titans was made in 1981 and has the distinction of being the last film to ever feature Ray Harryhausen stop motion creatures. Alas, as the saying goes: out with the old, in with the new. This update of Clash of the Titans will most definitely be chock full of CG, and as cool as it may be to see photorealistic digital approximations of these mythological monsters, you can’t help but mourn the fact that stop motion animation is all but dead.

The remake heads into production next year, based on a script that was originally penned by Travis Beacham and then rewritten by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Bodyguard, Dreamcatcher). If it is successful, I’m willing to bet that the rumoured big screen adaptation of the video game God of War won’t be far behind!

  • Well Ray Harryhausen was probably not going to go out of retirement to redo something.

Stephen Norrington fucking rules. I love Blade, I think it was a fucking badass entry into action when it came out. Sean Connerys asshole attitude towards anyone not sucking his dick (like Michael Bay) ruined the film along with the lame script I guess.

He is a good director. LXG was not his project and not his fault.

Not all films turn out the way they were meant to. Blade was alright. Sure, LXG was terrible. But who cares really? Its done and over with.

I cant say I really am in the mindset of carrying about this remake. I’m sure there are others who are just throwing fits. Too be honest, I am kind of bored of all these epic/fantasy movies coming our way. Unless the trailer looks really good (here comes the clitched part of the saying….) I doubt I’d actually go see it.

  • Even though the original is less than perfect and unintentionally funny by today’s standards, a remake would be worse. Why? They would ruin it with too much CGI.
