Open Forum Friday: Which December Movie Are You Most Looking Forward To?

Outside of the summer, it seems like the Christmas holidays are the best time to release a blockbuster movie of some sort. I don’t really remember if it’s always been this way; all I know is that every year now there are usually at least a few big event flicks worth checking out by the time Christmas rolls around. Of course, there’s always a good mix of Oscar contenders that start to sneak into multiplexes around the same time too, so aside from the usual holiday dreck, you can count on some decent options for the discerning moviegoer in December. At this point, I thought I would throw it out to you guys and simply ask which December movies (if any) you are most looking forward to. Which ones will be the biggest hits? I’ve set up a poll below, but feel free to chime in with any others that I’ve missed. Give us your thoughts here on Open Forum Friday!

  • JUNO. Definitely. It looks phenomenal, plus it’s already getting great reviews.

  • Sweeney Todd all the fucking way.

There Will Be Blood. Strong initial reviews, the director who made Boogie Nights, Daniel Day Lewis, and an opening 20 minutes without dialogue…I’m in.

  • I plan to see Juno, I Am Legend, and Sweeney Todd before the month is out. Between the three of them, Juno and I Am Legend take precedence, though I had to vote for I Am Legend because I recently watched The Last Man On Earth in preparation for the next episode of The Movie Club Podcast, and I’m now intrigued to see how the Will Smith version will differ from the Vincent Price version (aside from the obvious).

I am equally looking forward to I am Legend next weekend and Sweeney Todd and There Will Be Blood later this month. I also want to see Juno and The Orphanage. The best month of movie releases this year has got to be this month. I love it.

The one of many things that I look forward to in a Tim Burton film is actually seeing Helen Bonham Carter’s performance. Unlike Zombie, Burton is with a women who has a great deal of acting talent and can probably do anything he wants her to do.

I voted for “I am legend”, mainly because I just rewatched “Last Man on Earth” and “Omega Man” so I’m in that frame of mind. I was going to vote “Golden Compass” because I heard a synopsis of it yesterday on the radio and it sounds interesting. I haven’t found Tim Burton/Johnny Depp interesting since Ed Wood, and the only musical I can stand is maybe “The Wizard of Oz”, so I’ll be avoiding “Sweeny”. I’m crossing my fingers that there’ll be a “Corner Gas” movie coming soon. Since they have so many Canadian celebrities do cameos on the show, maybe Greg and Reed will show up in it.
