Gerard Butler to Play Sabretooth in Wolverine Movie?
There are a lot of question marks that still remain when it comes to the Wolverine spin-off/prequel flick (now officially called X-Men Origins: Wolverine). We know that Gavin Hood will direct, and Hugh Jackman will obviously star, but that’s where fact ends and speculation begins. A couple of weeks ago there was talk that Maggie Q might come on board to play Silver Fox. Now there is another juicy rumour floating around regarding someone who might play Sabretooth in the film. Here’s a hint: he’s not a former wrestler. According to CHUD, Karl Urban was previously in negotiations, but has since backed out, and now it looks like Gerard Butler is the new go-to guy.
Butler doesn’t have much on the go ever since that Escape From New York remake fell apart, so this seems feasible. He now brings with him a sizable fan following thanks to his performance in 300, so it would probably be a big score for Marvel to land him. To be clear, Butler would actually be playing the role of Victor Creed, who eventually goes on to become Sabretooth. I suppose this is the main reason why they don’t want to bring back Tyler Mane again (well, that, and because they might require actual acting this time around). What do you think, is this a good casting choice? Better than Karl Urban? I guess we don’t really know at this point how much Creed/Sabretooth factors into the story, but it does seem like it might be an important role. I certainly don’t think it can hurt the film, at any rate.
