Arrested Development Movie Rumours Just Won’t Die
Ever since the dreaded cancellation of Arrested Development, we’ve been subject to endless speculation about the possibilities of bringing the show to the big screen. Considering that many of the cast members have been making headway in their own film careers, it might make some sense… but the real question is whether or not anyone would greenlight a movie version of a TV show that couldn’t consistently draw enough viewers to stay on the air.
ReelzChannel recently spoke with A.D. alumni Jason Bateman and Michael Cera at a press junket for the movie Juno, which they both star in. Bateman revealed the exciting news that an Arrested Development movie “is certainly on the table”, and that he’d recently been involved in a weekend meeting with series creator Mitch Hurwitz. Hurwitz for his part had been working on an American adaptation of the BBC series The Thick of It (the pilot for which was directed by Christopher Guest), but since ABC opted not to pick up the show, we can assume his schedule has opened up again. Cera, although not directly in the loop, confirmed that he’d be interested in doing an Arrested Development movie as well. So will all this talk actually amount to anything? Somehow I doubt it, and I’d rather not get anyone’s hopes up at this point. But it’s hard to deny the fact that it would be great to see these characters to have another kick at the can. Thoughts?
