Woman Files Lawsuit After Being Duped in Jeff Goldblum Mockumentary Pittsburgh
A few months ago we posted about a mockumentary starring Jeff Goldblum called Pittsburgh, in which he participates in a local theatre production of The Music Man. The movie had been billed as something more than a scripted, fictional comedy though, since The Music Man production itself was real and many of the people in it were non-actors who thought they were being filmed for a documentary. Very Borat-esque, in that sense.
Well it seems that the movie now has something else in common with Borat because they have a lawsuit on their hands as well! One of the stagehands who was involved in the show at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh claims she was humiliated by a scene that appears in the film where she uses rubbing alcohol on Jeff Goldblum’s skin in order to attach a microphone to him, and Goldblum makes a sexual innuendo. Debbie Sue Croyle is suing for $4 million in damages, and wants to stop the movie from being sold on DVD or airing on TV until her scene is removed. According to the article at Yahoo, all theatre employees were asked to sign release forms for the movie, although it fails to mention whether Croyle actually signed one or not. She may have a valid case here, although with such a low profile movie I don’t know if a $4 million compensation might be a bit much to expect. Personally I’m just bummed because if lawsuits like this continue, pretty soon no one will be allowed to poke fun at anyone in real life anymore. Come on people, where’s your sense of humour?
