The Exorcist Remake In The Works?

It feels like almost every week for the past two or three years we’ve been hearing a new rumour or announcement about an old horror movie getting remade, and every time I think to myself: they’ve now officially run out of classic horror movies to remake. But then somehow they find more. And more. And more. Well, if this latest rumour (and that’s all it is right now, a rumour) turns out to be true, I think this has to be where we draw the line!

There are certain movies that just shouldn’t be remade, and out of all the horror movies in the world I think that The Exorcist is right near the top of that list. There’s just something about that original movie that goes beyond being merely scary… it’s as if the movie has a presence or a life of its own. Everything about the film’s production and time period in which it was made adds up to something much greater than the sum of its parts. A remake could never in a million years reproduce the unique atmosphere and eerie sense of overwhelming evil. They re-released the original movie as The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen back in 2000, and it was a great experience to get to see it on the big screen (even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the new cut). The Renny Harlin prequel Exorcist: The Beginning and even Paul Schrader’s cut Dominion are proof that you simply can’t recreate the feel of the original and it’s futile to even try. The talk of a remake supposedly comes from a recent horror and sci-fi festival where Linda Blair introduced a screening of the film and gave the crowd the inside scoop. Let’s hope this turns out to be bogus.

There has never been a movie like the Exorsist! I mean, for God sake’s, I have even seen at least three seperate Documentaries/TV Documentaries on how creepy this movie actually is.

This won’t get made. It can’t.

I think it would be pretty cool if they remade The Exorcist. It would never, ever be as awesome as the original, but it would still be awesome.I’ve been a BIG fan of the movie since I was 3,and I know for a fact that if they remade the movie, people would say it sucked…even if it didn’t.

I hope they make a remake.
I’ll audition for the part of Regan.
    =)

The Exorcist remake with all the cut scenes of the original in 3D will make a fortune. It will definetly put todays horror movies into retirement for good.

I hear that they are sending the script to Dakota Fanning and they are still talking. I hope she take it! :)

  • dakota fanning will fuck up that movie and i think that it would tank and dakota’s career would get fucked up as well

  • oh yeah!!!!!!!!! and she’s to old already they need someone thats younger like me to play regan i will put my life on the line to get the role of regan in the exorcist remake my sister said that i look just like linda blair in the exorcist plus i would need the role more then anybody else and i will die if someone else gets the role and i sound just like linda blair to

IF! They made a remake it would most likely be horrible. Even if Dakota fanning does it and some how does a flawless performance along side with all her costars, the remake wouldn’t be any better. The goal for a remake can only be a redigitalize updated version with newer and better equipment. Because there’s no way you can make this movie any scarier. This movie is of all horror movies; this is the movie which you study and want some similarities in any horror movie . . . even those of today.

I hear Michael Bay wants the movie . . . I say no way; he plans to remake most or even all horror classics. Mr. Bay needs to worry about perfecting Rosemary’s Baby than trying to get another classic to ruin. I’ll admit he’s production company produces descent movie remakes but nothing as the original. Remaking a classic is far more difficult than coming up with your own idea. You have your strong fan base and already angry and pissoff enthusiasts before the movie is even in the works.

I say to Michael Bay don’t do the movie. Better yet, do a duplication . . . copy it. Take all the parts you want, add some of your own, rename your characters and title, and a new horror movie is born. Face it, that’s how Hollywood works, you have one really successful film and others come right after with a similar concept. You can even call it “The Exorcism” . . . sounds good, I can already see the millions coming in.

This is a win win situation, fans of the original can complain. And Micheal Bay can make a movie without having a none film critic trying to voice their input.

But if he does so happen to make my favorite horror movie of all time, than I’ll be that craze loser raising havoc.

I think a remake wouldn’t be so bad. The movie was once scary -in the 70’s- but to me I thought it dragged on and wasn’t that frightening.

It would be really hard to make a remake though because the original is a classic and nothing scares people these days.

I think making a remake of exorcist would be a scandal because this film is a master piece

This is a classica and should remain as such. The film is flawless in its own right for the time it was made (1973). Today, they could never make a film that would give you that “intense” feeling you received when you first watched this film. I personally, walked out of the theatre back in 1976 with my hands shaking after watching this film for the first time. There is NO WAY a remake will be able to match that. But, Hollywood (Warner Brothers) will eventually remake it after the Author probably passes on. I know for a fact they will never make it while he is alive. LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE!!!

I believe that a remake of The Exorcist is possible. You would have to have a hell of a director to create a movie like this. Its stated that it cannot be remade because of the eerie atmosphere it created during that period of time (Which made that movie so terrifying). I believe that there is a director out there that can recreate that atomsphere. It will not be easy. Any horror director says that “you should give the audience what they want” I believe that in order to create such a profound horror movie, you should give the audience on what they do not expect. If you create a wonderful horror movie (in regards to the Exocist) it is what freaks them out. This does not mean add sex blood guts and gore. I think that the director as such should step it up a notch and take the movie into a whole other level.

  • yvette estrada

    only zombie can do this…

  • Justin Henry

I personally would love to see a remake of the exorcist even though there is no way it will be the original … but i would love to see if today’s technology and equipment can atleast give the original a run for its money… you think about it right.. if there was a remake of the exorcist… you know how many ppl would love to go see that????? millions of ppl would!! but in the same breath i say nothing will ever beat the 1973 exorcist … just can’t happen but yes i would think it to be quite awesome to see a remake with new characters …

  • Albus Tank

yes for me it’s possible for having a remake of this masterpiece movie called “the exorcist” but be make sure that they can beat the original film and look another young girl to play Reagan but as long as this remake is still on plan or under process the original movie is still the best, this film is still considered as scary as hell even this film was already shown for so many years!

  • kanonball

I think that a remake would be pretty awesome. Although, the new technology movie-makers use today sort of makes a scary movie not too scary. Something about the way the Exorcist was filmed really made it something to see. I think if they were to remake it, they should attempt to make it seem older and try not to overload it with great graphics. I would also like them to show scenes that weren’t shown in the film, but were mentioned. Like when Burt ends up mysteriously down the stair well. If they added the scene of him going into Regan’s room and her maybe chasing him through the house or just hiding behind the door and breaking his kneck. That would scare me. It actually gives me the creeps just thinking about it. All in all, I think it would be an awesome idea. Maybe since the Exorcist was such a big hit, people will want to see if a remake could be up to par with it and go see the film.

  • so loved the exorcist. best horror movie ever . you right. you can’t “f” with perfection. but i promise you i would it would sell if it was done right.

  • Ashley

bull crap there not remaking this

  • brenda

what the fuck is wrong with people….and all of you agreeing with this remake is and insult and not only that….to get someone that is really popular to play regan like Dakota is absolutely ridiculous …they minus well get johnny depp to play father karras….and have lady gaga cover the soundtrack…its all about making money for this people….

  • Matt Baughman

They should not remake The Exorcist. If they do it will only suck. I believe that Linda Blair is the only Regan Mcneil, no one can play the part like she did back in 73.
