Sacha Baron Cohen Wants To Remake The Party

On the topic of remakes, here’s a pretty interesting story from the New York Post’s Page Six that has seemingly come from out of left field. Blake Edwards’ 1968 film The Party has earned a spot among the greatest comedies of all time, featuring one of Peter Sellers’ most memorable performances as the bumbling Indian actor Hrundi V. Bakshi, who gets accidentally invited to a exclusive Hollywood party and wreaks havoc on the proceedings. In some ways, it is one of those movies that would be unthinkable to remake… unless you suddenly heard that Sacha Baron Cohen was interested in taking it on! While the talk of a redo seems to be pure speculation at this point, we do know that Cohen recently met Blake Edwards at a screening of The Party in Santa Monica, where they proceeded to chat for a long time. Just imagine… how perfect would this be for Sacha Baron Cohen? Many people have likened Cohen’s innocent characterizations to that of Peter Sellers, and in some ways, Borat is just Hrundi V. Bakshi brought into the real world. Maybe they could set the whole thing up like the Borat movie, with Cohen crashing a real party with real people. Wouldn’t that be an amazing twist on an old classic? I thought so.

Very nice! I really enjoyed the original when I saw it on late night TV. I think he’s the perfect guy to do it too.

I love the party. I think Cohen is perfect if a remake has to be made.
