This Week on DVD – Oct. 2, 2007

Let’s take a look at what shiny new discs hit stores this week shall we? Some of the high profile releases include Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, 1408, and the absolutely massive Star Trek Next Generation: The Complete Series. Looking beyond those, there are some decent TV releases including the first season of Jericho (which I’ve been wanting to give another chance since I tuned out halfway through the season), Entourage: Season 3, Part 2 (a low point for the series), the first season of The Sarah Silverman Program, and Metalocalypse: Season 1 for all you animated metalheads out there. On Blu-ray, it’s a huge week for horror fans as Anchor Bay/Starz is bringing out such classics as Evil Dead 2, Halloween, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, and to top it all off we have Elf Bowling: The Movie. Not bad… not bad at all.

  • Any new features on the Next Gen double-dip?

  • I think there’s supposed to be a whole bunch of new featurettes and things. I don’t know the exact details though.

  • Dracula has new features, but the others are just ported from the DVD’s. (aside from some pop-up trivia tracks.)

  • Hmm… I can’t seem to find solid info on it anywhere. I don’t know how I feel about it. On the one hand if it’s the same stuff I don’t have a reason to rebuy it. On the other hand, I do only own the first 4 seasons and I would like to own the rest, so an awesome feature-packed release would be alright.

  • Wait, if you were asking about the double dip of star trek, I don’t believe there’s special features. By ‘next gen’ I thought you meant the high definition releases.

  • Wil Wheaton posted on his blog a while back that there were some new interviews and things. I’ll see if I can find the post.

  • HD technology has taken over the moniker ‘Next Gen’ in your head already?!?

Darth Nameless, you need to lock Jay in your room for acouple weeks. Get his mind back to focusing on whats important.

  • I found this:

The definitive DVD collection features all 176 classic episodes from the series’ 1987-1994 run along with all-new special features including “The Next Generation’s Impact: 20 Years Later,” “The Next Generation’s Legacy: 2007” and “Star Trek Visual Effects Magic: A Roundtable Discussion.”

  • Motherfucker that sucks. That’s not enough to buy it, yet not getting to see it will eat me alive like 5 bleedings ulcers!

  • Aside from the promise of an alternate ending on the 1408 DVD, there’s really nothing on this massive list that interests me. The Sarah Silverman Program is funny, but not necessarily something I could see myself watching repeatedly.
