I hate to say it, but I’ve just about had it with mockumentaries. There have been some very funny movies over the years that have used a fake documentary format to generate laughs, but the problem is that it has become such an easy format for low budget filmmakers, that the concept is being done to death right now. For this reason, I was hesistant to even watch the trailer for Justin Lin’s new movie Finishing The Game as soon as I saw that it was a mockumentary. But I have to admit, the premise intrigued me, and coming from the director of Better Luck Tomorrow and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, the production value is quite high. The movie is a fictionalized version of what happened after Bruce Lee’s death, with studio execs attempting to find a body double for Bruce Lee to complete his final film Game of Death. It does indeed look quite funny, tackling both racial stereotypes and the absurdity of Hollywood in one foul swoop. The movie has been playing at a number of festivals; to find out where you can catch it visit the movie’s official website at www.youoffendmeyouoffendmyfamily.com. Check out the trailer below.
