Christian Bale to Star in Metal Gear Solid Movie?

I just love wild and unfounded rumours… don’t you? This week we get a real doozy from a U.K.-based magazine called Nuts. Yes, Nuts. Apparently the latest issue has an interview with Christian Bale in which he claims to be in the running to play Solid Snake in the upcoming movie adaptation of the video game Metal Gear Solid. Since Nuts doesn’t have any of their articles online, there’s no way to actually confirm that Bale said this. While I don’t necessarily think it’s the most far-fetched rumour I’ve ever heard, it’s a long way from being confirmed at this point.

What we do know is that a Metal Gear Solid movie is indeed in the works, and creator Hideo Kojima claims to have landed a “class-A contract” for the production. I can certainly see this project attracting a little more talent than say, Bloodrayne, and if you’ve seen both Rescue Dawn and Batman Begins, you can probably already picture how Christian Bale would work for this role. He’s got the voice, the look, and most importantly, the presence to pull off Solid Snake. But is this really something Bale would be interested in? Hard to say. He’s already doing the Batman movies, and he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who’d be wiling to get tied down with multiple franchises. That said, I love me some Bale and if it turned out to be true, personally I’d be all for it. I’m very interested to see how this Metal Gear Solid movie plays out. We’re still waiting for the first video game to movie adaptation that doesn’t completely suck, and aside from Halo, I’d say this one has the next best shot at being a success. Thoughts?

  • I didn’t think this sounded particularly possible either but hey, you never know.

  • MGS is my all time favorite game, and I think that Bale is perfect for the part of Solid Snake. I just hope that they stick to the story. Often times adaptations are ruined by straying too far from what made the original so good.

An interesting thing to ponder: If Bale takes the role of Solid Snake, will he also don a long blonde wig and play his clone brother Liquid? And for that matter, is there a place for him to also play his other cloned brother Solidus or Big Boss, the man they were all cloned from? I’d personally like to see the same actor both Solid and Liquid.

I think Bale would be a great Solid Snake, as this guy would be a interesting Revolver Ocelot http://l.yimg.com/img.movies.yahoo.com/ymv/us/img/flickr/70/85/002083737085.jpg

  • JRM

God, PLEASE let this be true! As a huge fan of the MG series, Bale’s got my blessing to play Snake.

This is so cool if it is true. I want them to make the movie already. And, I think Christian Bale could play snake well as long as they stick to at least most of the origanil story line. Oh ya I think that either Jet Lee would make a really good Gray Fox and for Octacon : Deep maybe but Shi Labuff (don’t think I spelled his name right, sorry guys if I didn’t I just can really spell)or the kid off of “Live Free Die Hard”. Just image the possibilities with this movie. :)

guys u are too excited and not knowing that on January 11, 2010, de Luca confirmed that work on a Metal Gear film adaptation has been postponed indefinitely. He said Konami expressed concern that the entire Metal Gear franchise could be seriously affected if a movie version performed poorly .
I hope they never make a movie (it will ruin MGS)and insted they make Computer animated movie like MGS 4 cutscene.
