Well you know it’s a bad sign when Fox News is the most reputable source to report on something, but thus far it seems that they are the only major news outlet to mention this huge breaking story about the supposed hospitalization of actor Owen Wilson after a possible suicide attempt. It does seem pretty hard to believe and frankly I was shocked when Goon sent me a link to the story. The only thing that seems to be confirmed at this point is the fact that Owen Wilson was indeed taken to a hospital from his home in Santa Monica, CA, after a family member placed a 911 call. The other details originated from Star Magazine and the National Enquirer, so make of that what you will, but they claim that his left wrist was bandaged and that he had overdosed on some pills. Wow. I’m a big Owen Wilson fan and it seems insane to think that a guy with such a happy, fun-loving exterior may have been wrestling with depression underneath it all. But on the other hand, I’m sure it’s quite possible. Most of Wes Anderson’s films have a real sense of melancholy to them, and now I’m wondering if maybe Owen Wilson contributed to that vibe since he co-wrote some of those movies. I keep flashing on Owen’s brother Luke in The Royal Tenenbaums slitting his wrists to the song “Needle in the Hay”. Not a pretty sight! We’ll have more on this story as it develops, but for now let’s just hope the man is alright.
