Sean Penn’s Into The Wild Trailer

I’ve been pretty interested in Sean Penn’s upcoming movie Into The Wild ever since I first heard about it. It’s based on the true story of Christopher McCandless, a guy who wandered alone across the U.S. up to the Alaskan wilderness, supposedly in an attempt to escape civilization and to find himself, before eventually being found dead near Denali National Park. To me it sounds like a pretty powerful story, and with Sean Penn at the helm, I could see it being a masterpiece. A trailer for the film is now online, and it certainly plays up the adventure and the romanticized nature of his journey. I only hope the film will cover the darker aspects of the story as well. The movie has some echoes of Grizzly Man and Castaway, both of which are great movies in their own right. Based on the book by Jon Krakauer, Into The Wild stars Emile Hirsch as McCandless, with appearances by William Hurt, Catherine Keener, Marcia Gay Harden and Vince Vaughn (yes, that’s right, Vince Vaughn). It hits theatres on September 21st.

  • I think this trailer looks quite good and though I wasn’t a huge fan of “Mystic River”, I’m looking forward to this one.

  • I caught this trailer the other day when I saw Rescue Dawn. I’m interested in it. For one reason or another Emile Hirsch has yet to really make me like him, but this could be the one. Maybe.

i just finished the book and can’t wait for this movie. the story is so moving and inspiring, i teared up a few times while reading about this brave young man. if this movie is half as good as the book, it will be a masterpiece

i just hope the film doesn’t overly romanticize McCandless’s “adventure.” he was certainly on a journey of self-discovery, but he was also severely misguided and unprepared for alot of his endeavors . . . especially winter in Alaska. i too hope that the darker elements of his personal naivete aren’t ignored.
