Noah Baumbach’s Margot At The Wedding Trailer Hits the Web

Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale would probably have been one of my top 10 movies of 2005… if I had seen it in 2005 that is. I didn’t like his first film Kicking and Screaming (no not the Will Ferrell one) quite as much, but I am definitely looking forward to see what he does next. A trailer has just popped up online for Margot At The Wedding, Baumbach’s follow-up directorial effort, starring an intriguing cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, John Turturro, and… Jack Black? Since when did Jack Black start getting all indie? Either way, the feel of this film seems very similar to The Squid and the Whale, as sort of a low key “dramedy” (yes, that is an official genre now) about two sisters at odds with each other as one tries to prevent the other from getting married. I’m sure some people will watch this and think it’s total hipster crap, but I for one can’t wait to see it. Margot At The Wedding hits theatres on October 12th.

  • “since when did Jack Black get all indie?”

he needed to branch back out, considering some of the backlash… and that fact that since he can actually act, he should.

did you not see him in Jesus’ Son?

  • No I did not. I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m just surprised is all.

  • Hm…I haven’t seen any of this director’s other films, and I can’t say that this trailer was incredibly impressive, but it looks like a decent film. It’s weird. Some of these obviously indie movies get me really excited and others don’t. For example, Imaginary Heroes had me hooked from the start, but this doesn’t, and they look like similar types of films. I dunno. I’ll probably miss this in the theater (partially because I don’t know if it will show near me), but wouldn’t mind seeing it.
