Here’s a movie that seems like it may have been inspired by the controversial Death of a President, but unlike that movie, it has a gimmick that seems just a little more interesting. Vantage Point is about the assassination of a fictional U.S. president, told from the point of view of five different onlookers — clearly also influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s classic Rashomon. The movie has a pretty solid cast that includes Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, Dennis Quaid, William Hurt and Sigourney Weaver, and the trailer makes it look surprisingly action-packed. It also reminded me a bit of 24 and the Bourne series, so I can see this doing quite well. The movie is written by Barry Levy and directed by Pete Travis, both of whom apparently come from TV backgrounds. Unfortunately, after getting excited by the trailer, I came to the realization that Vantage Point isn’t out until next February. Boo. Thanks to Goon for the heads up on this one.
