Jeffrey Blitz’s Rocket Science Trailer Starring Reece Thompson

Well we’re not even halfway through the summer movie season yet, and I have to admit I’m already starting to get a little worn out by all the massive tentpole flicks. When I see a trailer for a smaller character-driven indie film like Rocket Science, I can’t help but get excited simply based on the fact that it’s something different. In the case of Rocket Science, however, that’s not the only reason to get excited. This is the much-anticipated second film from Academy Award-nominated director Jeffrey Blitz, who previously gave us the fantastic spelling bee documentary Spellbound. The interesting thing here is that Rocket Science is not a documentary, but rather a fictional story revolving around a boy with a stuttering problem who decides to join his high school debate team. It sounds a bit like Mike Mills’ Thumbsucker, but you can definitely see the influence that Spellbound might have had on crafting the endearing characters found in this film. Early reviews for the movie have been great, and the marketing department is quick to call it this year’s Little Miss Sunshine. I can’t necessarily argue with that comparison either. Give the trailer a look over at Yahoo! now; if you like what you see, check out two more clips over at /Film. Rocket Science hits select theatres on August 10th.
