Transformers Theme Song on Soundtrack Not The Same As Leaked MP3

So last week we had some fun chuckling at the nu-metal Transformers theme song that popped up online via sectorseven.org, the officially unofficial Transformers viral marketing site. There was some debate over whether or not this song would actually appear in the movie, but regardless it seemed to be an indication of the direction the movie was heading with Michael Bay’s penchant for style over substance. When the track listing for the Transformers movie soundtrack was announced a few days later, it came as no surprise that it was filled with plenty of radio-friendly rock bands who have maximum teenage appeal.

According to the track listing, the Transformers Theme was performed by a band called Mutemath. We had been assuming up until now that this was the same leaked song we had already heard, but it turns out that assumption was wrong. If you head over to Mutemath’s MySpace page, you’ll be treated to a completely different Transformers theme song. While it’s still pretty damn cheesy (let’s face it, how can it not be), it is at least a little more toned down, less “in your face”, and more electronic, which seems appropriate. I will say that outside of the vocals, if they used background music like that in the movie it could create a pretty interesting apocalyptic atmosphere. Give it a listen and see which version you prefer.

  • oh Jesus, this is actually about a HUNDRED FUCKING TIMES WORSE, in both quality and cheese. at least the other one is in the spirit of the big dumb movie its going to be, actually sounds like the Transformers theme, and well, I do think there shoudl be guitars in a Transformers theme. The Cars are robots, and well, big riff metal seems necessary.

If I had to have anyone do the theme, it would actually be Fear Factory, who mix the electronic with the chug chug cold machine metal.

but yeah, this theme is probably the worst thing I could have possibly imagined as the theme. it brought out the hyperbole in me. this song is absolute ASS.

  • a kindred spirit of mine agrees and put up a transformers video set to Fear Factory on youtube

  • Isn’t this song a bit too boring for a movie about robots punching one another?
