It looks like mob movies are coming back in vogue this year thanks to the success of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed. And since The Sopranos is wrapping up this season, it makes sense that some of the talent from that show would turn their attention toward some big screen projects as well! Brooklyn Rules is an indie film penned by Sopranos writer/producer Terence Winter (Get Rich or Die Tryin’) that stars an intriguing cast including Alex Baldwin, Freddie Prinze Jr., Scott Caan, Mena Suvari and Jerry Ferrara (that’s right, our little Turtle is all growns up now!). The story involves three friends living in Brooklyn in 1985; when one finds himself drawn to the mafia lifestyle, he puts them all at risk. Baldwin plays the big boss Caesar Manganaro, and as charismatic as all these guys are, I do question whether or not I can take any of them seriously as mobsters. Still, I do enjoy a good mob flick when it’s done right! Brooklyn Rules is directed by Michael Corrente (A Shot at Glory) and opens in a limited release on May 18th.
