Trainspotting Sequel Could Finally Happen
Looks like the rumours of a Trainspotting sequel are picking up again, with director Danny Boyle recently confirming that he has secured the rights and that all of the actors have agreed to return — yes, that’s right, including Ewan McGregor. McGregor was reportedly the main hold out on the project for years; he and Boyle had a falling out after DiCaprio was cast in The Beach. Once they settled their differences, however, he still had doubts that they should risk tarnishing the legendary status of the first film.
The sequel to Trainspotting will of course be based on Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel Porno, which takes place ten years later. Sick Boy tracks down Renton to help him fund a high-end adult film, meanwhile Begbie is out of prison and seeking revenge. As much as I’d love to see these characters back on the screen again, it does seem a bit risky considering how much people love Trainspotting. Either way, don’t get too excited just yet… Boyle hinted that the sequel may not happen for a few years still: “I just want to wait until the actors are in their 40s. I could make it now, but the problem is they all look the same. I want them to look ravaged by the passing of time.”
