Holy crap. I’m stunned by this next bit of news. Bob Clark, director of such classics as Black Christmas, A Christmas Story, Porky’s and Baby Geniuses (okay, maybe that last one wasn’t so classic) was killed in a car crash yesterday along with his son. They were driving down the Pacific Coast Highway when a drunk driver in an SUV swerved into oncoming traffic. If this had happened a few days ago I would have thought it was an April Fool’s joke. What a tragic thing. Clark may be one of the most important and influential Canadian filmmakers of all-time, and to go out like this… it’s just insane. 24 year old Hector Velazquez-Nava of Los Angeles, the driver of the other car, survived the accident and will be charged with gross vehicular manslaughter. I’m sure this man will never realize the true repercussions of his actions, but I can guarantee there are a lot of shocked movies fans around the world that will be in mourning today.
