A few days ago we reported that Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is also developing a live action G.I. Joe movie, and that Mark Wahlberg could possibly star in it. This got people talking about what exactly a G.I. Joe live action movie might look like, and which characters they’d like to see involved. Among those believed to be in the movie so far are Duke, Hawk, Snake Eyes, Destro, Stormshadow and a young Cobra Commander. In a recent interview with Latino Review, however, di Bonaventura revealed one character that you might not have expected: Alex Mann aka Action Man!

Now if you live in North America, you might be thinking to yourself, “Who the hell is that?”. Action Man was the international equivalent to the G.I. Joe toy line (which makes sense, because as we all know, G.I. Joe is a “Real American Hero”). There were also a few Action Man animated shows here in North America within the last 10 years or so, one of which portrayed Alex Mann as an extreme sports athlete with mental powers that are triggered by adrenaline. Sounds pretty lame right? Well apparently since G.I. Joe is so American-ized, they needed a way to make the live action movie marketable to an international audience… so Action Man will also be thrown into the mix. He describes the G.I. Joe project as a “buddy movie between Duke and Alex”. Does anyone else think this sounds absolutely terrible? I understand the difficulty of making G.I. Joe appeal to people outside of North America, but this just sounds like a lame crossover attempt and a bad sign of the direction the project is heading.
