The Day The Earth Stood Still Gets A Remake

There’s even more remake fodder coming our way soon, according to this hot scoop from FirstShowing.net. Upon discovering an upcoming listing for The Day The Earth Stood Still on Box Office Mojo for May 2008, they got in touch with Fox who confirmed that a remake is indeed in the works. Whoa… hold on a second. A remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, one of the most significant science-fiction films ever made? That’s pretty ballsy.

I have to admit, my first reaction to this news is one of cynicism, but then I remembered that I actually loved Steven Spielberg’s take on War of the Worlds. It really comes down to who will be involved in this project. The special effects will be a key factor as well, and I thought ILM did a great job of mixing the old with the new in War of the Worlds. If Fox knows what’s good for them, they’ll have a top notch director lined up for this because sci-fi nerds are an unforgiving bunch. And before anyone else says it, let me just throw it out there… can we get Bruce Campbell in a starring role? At least he’s got the “Klaatu barada nikto” part down, that’s gotta count for something.
