Milli Vanilli Biopic Actually In The Works

We’ve seen the rumor mill churning out reports of just about every musical biopic imaginable as of late, and it is for this reason I say… hey, why not a Milli Vanilli biopic?? You may remember the 80’s pop duo featured dreadlocked twins Rob and Fab, and were known for such hits as “Girl You Know It’s True” and “Blame It On The Rain”, but they also had a pretty tumultuous career. They are most well-known for being exposed as frauds, lip syncing in concert and never having sung their own songs even on record. They were actually stripped of a Grammy as a result, and eventually Rob turned to a life of drugs and crime, dying of a drug overdose in 1998.

As much as this band is essentially a joke in a lot of people’s minds, I think there is a pretty interesting and relevant story here. A lot of today’s pop stars are just as pre-fabricated as Milli Vanilli were, and somehow lip syncing doesn’t seem like such a crime anymore. The movie will be written and directed by Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 2, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal), who seems like the right man for the job. “I’ve always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment”. Let the Rob and Fab casting rumours begin!
