Voltron Comics To Become Direct to DVD Movies
We’ve been hearing rumours for a while now about a new Voltron animated series in the works, and also potentially an upcoming live action movie. With the original cartoon recently being released on DVD, it seems that momentum is building towards something… although, in this case, it’s not quite what we expected.
Wizard reports that Eagle One Media will be producing a series of new Voltron DVDs based on the comic series published by Devil’s Due. But don’t get too excited… these are not going to be fully animated adaptations, they will essentially just be digital comics. Ugh. Oh sure, they claim to be adding “animation, motion-style techniques, character voice-over, music, and special effects” to create a “fact-paced, entertaining ‘feature film'”, but that still doesn’t win me over. I think digital comics in general are a pretty lame idea. Why bother? If you’re going to animate it, then animate it. Otherwise, just leave it as a comic. Are people so illiterate nowadays they can’t even read comics anymore?
On a related note, Variety reported back in December that screenwriter Justin Marks had finished a script for the Voltron live-action movie. Hopefully this means we’ll be hearing more about the project in the near future.
