J.J. Abrams To Beam Up Tom Cruise in Star Trek XI?

Yesterday there were news stories floating around about Tom Cruise reportedly being in negotiations to star in 3 new movies. Today there has come another even bigger rumour: Tom Cruise may be in negotiations to star in the next Star Trek movie! I’d definitely take this one with a grain of salt, but it might make a bit of sense considering Cruise’s relationship with J.J. Abrams after working on M:I3 together. The rumour supposedly comes from Canada’s TV Guide, where it was reported that Cruise is a huge Trekkie and was desperate for a cameo. An anonymous source said: “He didn’t even need to be begged to appear in it”. Imagine that! Considering the hits his career has taken lately, if anything he’s probably the one who needs to be doing the begging. The weird thing is that Star Trek is a Paramount franchise, and it remains to be seen exactly how friendly Cruise and Paramount are since he was dropped from his exclusive contract a few months ago. So let the speculation begin… Tom Cruise as Spock? I can totally see it.

Get over this obsession with them playing the original characters!

I think they’ve canned that idea… Well – if they are considering Tom Cruise for a leading role they have, since he’s pretty fucking old. Probably older than the original cast at the time.

  • I’m pretty sure the three picture deal is with Paramount. I seem to recall the initial news of him being dropped completely being pulled back. I think he just gets less money now.

  • I was kidding about the Spock thing… sounds like it will be just a small cameo anyway.

As for the Paramount thing, I’m pretty sure he no longer has a deal with them. They offered him less money and he walked away. The 3 new movies he was talking about were all with different studios.

RUMOR UPDATE: Tom Cruise to play Captain Christopher Pike in new Star Trek movie. My guess is that we’ll see what happens that caused Pike to be put in that enclosed black wheel chair where Pike has those lights on the front to blink yes or no. So, Tom Cruise in one scene will probably be sitting in the captain’s chair on the U.S.S. Enterprise and in a following scene later then you’ll see Tom Cruise blown to smithereens and then put back together to be rolled around in the trek black wheel chair. That’ll be a great analogy for how Tom Cruise’s acting career has gone…. Anyways, shortly thereafter, James T. Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise and then we see the rough start of the relationship of Kirk and Spock where is still loyal to Pike and Spock is unsure of Kirk…. Or something along those lines is my guess….

BETTER RUMOR UPDATE: Tom Cruise to play a red-shirt security person on new Star Trek movie where in one of the first scenes in the movie, Tom Cruise is immediately phasered down dead, or eaten alive by a trek monster, or something else really bad happens to him that Tom Cruise simply becomes yet another dead red-shirt star trek security officer. Now that would be a sight to see!

Is Tom Cruise really a huge Trekkie? Maybe this Scientology business ain’t so bad. Wait a minute. Those Heaven’s Gate suicide members were Trekkies, too.

I guess it’s natural for a geek like me to get some validation when he finds out some cool guy likes Star Trek. I was disappointed to find out that it was falsely reported that the Dalai Lama is a Trekkie. Maybe the Dalai Lama isn’t cool enough for you. How about Christian Slater who got himself a cameo in Star Trek VI? Actually, he always seemed like a dickweed to me. Maybe it’s because he reminds people of Jack Nicholson who I think is a dick. Though it would be cool if Nicholson was a Trekkie.

Daniel Craig (the new James Bond) is supposedly a Trekkie. That’s cool. Eddie Murphy and Tom Hanks are supposedly Trekkies. But they’re kinda dweebs. Murphy’s kinda cool, but that Party All the Time song and video were really lame. That brought Rick James’ street cred down a lot.

If I was Abrams, I’d make the movie an adventure in year 4 of the original 5-year mission and use your original suggestion of casting Cruise as Spock. Although seeing that no one on the Internet has run with your suggestion since you made it under a year ago, Sean, I think this will have to be another one of my dreams dashed.
