Could it be true? John Carpenter and Kurt Russell re-united once again for a third “Escape” movie? Word on the street is that there was a major meeting at Paramount last week discussing the feasibility of such a project. After Escape From L.A. bombed back in ’96, the future of the franchise wasn’t looking so bright. But in recent years Snake Plissken has seen a resurgence in popularity due to a comic book series and also a video game (okay, so the video game never actually saw the light of day). Anyway, it sounds like Russell is playing hardball with the studio as he outright demanded a third Escape movie be made before he would sign on for a three-picture deal. Hard to believe he still has that much clout, but I guess they are at least considering it. The project would likely be called Escape From Earth, based on a screenplay that John Carpenter wrote some 8 years ago. Personally I’d love to see this happen… even if it turns out to be as bad as Escape From L.A., it would still be a hell of a lot of fun. I know Jay will be all over this as well. Come on people, admit it… Snake deserves a trilogy!
