I have to admit that at first glance The Illusionist did not really grab my attention, but both the cast and premise could certainly make for an interesting film. Director Neil Burger (Interview With The Assassin) tells the story of a magician in early 20th century Vienna who falls in love with a woman who is engaged to the prince of Austria. He must try to use his unique talents to win her affections, and in doing so brings down the wrath of royalty on his head. The movie stars Edward Norton, who is almost always impressive in anything he does, along with Paul Giamatti, Rufus Sewell, Eddie Marsan, and Jessica Biel. That’s right, I said Jessica Biel… what the heck is she doing in an art house film? Strangely, it looks like this role may actually bring her some credibility as an actress.
